If you’re visiting Hanoi in October, a festival could make a welcome addition to your sightseeing plans. The first week brings international culture to Thang Long Imperial Citadel, followed by a German-style celebration in the second week. The Hanoi Autumn Festival, previously scheduled for late September, has moved to mid-October.

October 1–4: World Culture Festival at Thang Long Imperial Citadel
The second World Culture Festival in Hanoi, officially called Lễ hội Văn hóa Thế giới tại Hà Nội lần thứ hai, takes place at Thang Long Imperial Citadel (Hoàng thành Thăng Long). What appeals to me most is the chance to enjoy an international cultural event in such a historic setting.
The government’s September 21 announcement describes 45 cultural spaces, alongside food, film, traditional clothing and international performances. Heritage-inspired gaming activities, cosplay and dance linked to the game Audition are also planned. Rather than trying to catch every performance, I’d start with a few cultural booths and foods that interest me, then check the timetable for one show. That sounds less tiring than trying to do everything. With children, check which activities they can take part in; for an evening out as a couple, start with the performance you most want to see.
Last year’s official photographs show busy cultural and food booths, along with performances against the citadel backdrop. They give a sense of what to look forward to, but these are photos from the 2025 festival, not this year’s event. Agree on a meeting point with your companions in case you get separated in the crowd.

October 8–10: Oktoberfest for a night out with friends
The Hanoi edition of GBA Oktoberfest Vietnam 2026 is scheduled for October 8–10 at JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi, from 6 pm to 11 pm each day. This is a ticketed event. Prices can vary by date and seating arrangement, so check the tickets currently on sale. Older early-bird offers on the official page may no longer apply. Before booking, confirm your date, what the ticket includes and the cancellation conditions.

October 16–18, provisional: Hanoi Autumn Festival
If you were looking forward to this festival during a late-September trip, the change of dates is the first thing to note. Festival Thu Hà Nội 2026 has moved from September 25–27 to October 16–18, provisionally. The official notice says the other main elements of the plan remain unchanged.
The original plan centres on Thong Nhat Park (Công viên Thống Nhất), with related activities at other locations in the city. Nine main spaces will cover areas including heritage, tourism, crafts and food, alongside cultural workshops and street arts. Detailed opening hours, fees and activity bookings still need further confirmation.
Where the World Culture Festival brings together different countries, the Autumn Festival is a chance to look more closely at Hanoi itself. If crafts and food interest you, spending longer in a few favourite spaces may be more rewarding than moving between every performance.

October 9–10: Check how each performance admits visitors
Arts events are also planned for the 72nd anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day. According to the government announcement, the October 9 concert is planned for paying audiences, while the October 10 programme, Bản Giao hưởng Hà Nội, is mainly for invited delegates. Government performance plan
The two performances have different admission arrangements. Wait for the October 9 venue, time and ticket announcement before adding it to a firm itinerary. For October 10, check whether any public access is available. For now, these are events to keep an eye on rather than anchor your trip around.
Which festival suits your trip?
If you’re visiting in the first week of October, I’d start with the World Culture Festival for its combination of the citadel setting and international programmes. For an evening with friends, check which Oktoberfest dates still have tickets. For Hanoi’s autumn culture and food, the Autumn Festival, provisionally scheduled for October 16–18, is the more natural choice.
With children, check activity age limits and expected queues, and distinguish adult drinking events from cultural activities aimed at families. You don’t need to fill your day with programmes that don’t interest you. Picking two or three things you actually want to see can make the outing much more enjoyable.
